You will begin with a visit to the Dolmabahce Palace, a blend of various European architectural styles, built between 1843 - 1856 by Karabet Balyan, the court architect of Sultan Abdulmecid. The three-storied palace built on a symmetrical plan has 285 rooms and 43 halls. The palace has survived intact with its original decorations, furniture and the silk carpets and curtains. Its surpasses all other palaces in the world in wealth and magnificence. Enjoy a walking tour starting at the Galata Bridge. The bridge is always crowded with local fisherman and you will see the local delicacies that they fish out of the Bosphorus waters. Once you have crossed the bridge you are now in the Beyoglu district, which during the Ottoman Empire was known as Pera. Travel up the steep hill up to Galatasaray via the historic underground cable car which was built in 1875, then only the third underground railway project in the world. Upon exiting the station you will find yourselves on the grand boulevard, Istiklal Caddesi, lookout for the historical tram that runs the length of the street. Stroll through this area as your guide explains the history behind the many churches, dervish lodges, embassies, and elegant buildings. This area is now the modern heart of Istanbul and you may decide to visit some of the boutique stores, galleries and cafes before finishing your walking tour.
